Tourist Information Centre and Multi-Purpose Urban Structure Project
The Kleopatra Gate, one of the 3 doors of the Tarsus, has functioned as a door opening right into the see since Tarsus used to be a coastal town. By the reason of being the door of the Tarsus, it is the first threshold one can get the perception of the phenomenon “city”. The linear structure and the tourist information building that are standing between traces of Tumulus of Gözlükule and Gate of Kleopatra is the main component for designing a unique triangular square for Tarsus, apart from the triangular square settlement is secluded for greenscape.
The project is aimed to shape an urban space for tourists who take their first step into the city, enable them to rest, plan their journey and get informed in a comfortable and enjoyable environment. Tumulus of Gözlükule and Gate of Kleopatra are creating a significant axis that divides tourist information building into two pieces. Besides, permeable surfaces which cover the divided tourist information building give shade for users in summer days and create the sense of totality. At the same time, the design implies axis and pedestrian access between the square and building which looks out for totality.
